The Black Garden Ant (which in reality is brown in colour) is the most common pest species that can invade houses. They have narrow waists which separate the three main parts of their bodies (head, thorax, abdomen) and an elbow joint in their antennae. The organised social insect have foraging workers that search for food in buildings and homes. They measure 3 to 5mm in length and head straight for sweet foodstuffs which are carried to the nest to feed to the rest of the colony.
